Additional Discussion Items & Updates
Neighborhood
Police Officers
Officers
Mike Brennan and Eric Dahlman joined us tonight, addressing questions and
concerns about our neighborhood. For now, they’re our very own friendly
neighborhood police officers. Contact them through the Madison Police dispatch
center or at the South Madison Police Station.
Bus Shelter Grant / Transit Enhancement Program – Candace
Pantoga
- Though we applied for and received a
bus shelter grant, folks later realized this won’t work for Bay
Creek since a business exists where we wanted to build the shelter.
Whoops! Instead, the city worker we spoke with recommended a five-seat
rack.
- Our cost-share of this grant is 20%
less than what the bus shelter would have been. We have no hard numbers on
costs, so at this time, we don’t know how much we have to raise.
Stay tuned.
- Maintenance of the seat rack (and
bus shelters, if we ever identify a viable location for one) is a
question.
South Madison Meeting – Rose Brothers
- On Thursday, January
10th,
6:30-8:30 pm at Lincoln Elementary School, there will be a meeting for the
City of Madison Planning Process. Burr Oaks, Bram’s Addition,
Capitol Heights and Bay Creek members, among others, are
invited.
Quann Park Gardens
- Meeting scheduled December
6th,
7 pm at St. Mark’s to discuss planning and use of the
Quann Park gardens.
Ready in summer 2002. Meetings will be held (tentatively) the
first Thursday
of each month.
Next
facilitator: Daina
Zemliauskas.
Next
meeting: Monday,
December 10th, 6:30 pm, Madison Baha’i Center, 324 W. Lakeside
Street.
MOTION
to adjourn: Kyle Richmond: 7:15 pm.
SECOND:
Candace Pantoga.
UNANIMOUS
APPROVAL.
The
business meeting adjourned but was immediately followed by a presentation from
Stephanie Smith from Hearts & Hands Across South
Madison.
Hearts & Hands Across South Madison
- Hearts & Hands
provides creative arts and community building opportunities for kids of
all ages (read: you can still be a kid if you’re 60). We learned a
lot through a brief show and tell of photos, clay tiles and
painted chairs.
H&H has attended the South Madison Farmer’s Market, Juneteenth
Day Celebration, the Bay Creek Fourth of July picnic and various schools.
Hearts & Hands would like to work with Bay Creek Neighborhood
Association to further implement visual arts programs at our
events, neighborhood
meetings and more.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: Hearts
& Hands provides the artistic materials and staff – it’s a
great deal!
- Stephanie will attend
our March meeting, helping us brainstorm: What do you want the Bay Creek
Neighborhood to be?
- Contact Stephanie at stephanie@hep.wisc.edu or phone
(608) 251-9669 for more info on Hearts & Hands.
