Conference in September. Check the city’s web site for details.

July 28th. Open Tuesdays 2:30 - 6 pm and Saturdays 8 am - noon.
They’re looking for volunteers. If you want to help, call the SMPC
office: 261-5076.
- SMPC
is a coalition of south side neighborhoods, members from the South Madison
Business Association, and folks from the surrounding towns and
communities. There are only 2 staff people; the rest of the SMPC is
composed of volunteers! General meetings held the third Monday of each
month, with the exception of this July (rescheduled to 07/23/01). SMPC
distributes resources and looks for new ways to develop collaborative
relationships among the member groups.
- A
survey on training needs and volunteer interests was distributed to BCNA
participants.
Welcome
- Next
meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 24, 6:30 pm at 118 W
Lakeside Street.
- Agenda
ideas include prioritizing and further developing the following
projects:
- Creating
a promotional piece for the nature conservancy to share with Sheraton
Hotel (as suggested by Anonymous).
- Recruiting
for involvement with neighborhood meetings and open positions (traffic,
area reps).
- Developing
a team captain program.
- Creating
a neighborhood welcome packet.
Alder Update
- Wingra
Creek Bridge will be completed any day now! (Previous minutes reflected
completion by now.)
- Two
large Olin-Turville Park events are upcoming: Blues Fest and The Great
Taste of the Midwest. Last year, neighbors suggested a larger police
presence, especially on Lakeside Street west of John Nolen. Alder Sloan
assured this need would be met.
- Two
more volunteers from the south side are needed to participate on a city
committee (Community Development Block Grant) to develop our neighborhood
plan. Estimated time commitment is 2 hours per night every other week for
a 6 to 8 month stretch. Fun! Speak up for our neighborhood. Call
Matt Sloan
at 250-6664.
- Alder
Sloan would like to see the BCNA Traffic Committee reinstated based on an
unbelievable number of traffic-related calls placed to him over the past
month.

Additional Discussion Items
Hands & Hearts Across South Madison will present information at the October BCNA
meeting.
Banners for Bay Creek.
This project, begun over two years ago, needs additional help from one or two
eager neighbors. Specifically looking for one or two people to follow up on
pre-production and production details (banner bids, proofing, production,
locating & purchasing brackets. We have the funding to produce the banners,
we just need some help tying up the business end! Interested? Contact Nick
Glass at 257-0120.
Fundraising Needs for Bay Creek. Overall, three projects were mentioned that may
require fund raising efforts on the behalf of Bay Creek: raising an additional
$2000-$3000 for banner hanging (bracket purchase), matching funds toward a bus
shelter grant (number to be determined; BCNA needs to raise 20% of the total of
an amount unknown by the City or Madison Metro). Other needs may exist. Do you
have a vision for developing funds for the good of our neighborhood? Call
Jennifer Zahn at 255-3797 to make a difference.
