COMMITTEE REPORTS:
- TREASURER'S REPORT: $1714.34 in our account. 374.72 membership; 964.37
newsletter; 245.25 sign; 130 web.
- CONTACT REPORT: Numerous documents shared, including pedestrian safety,
National Night Out, Parks News, City Planning Dept web site, Building Blocks (Channel
12). There was a brief discussion about presenting the upcoming Fiber Fest for the
Building Blocks show.
DISCUSSION:
- National Night Out. Ben gave some background about the SMPC and the Revitalizing
Park Street task force, and then talked about National Night Out (NNO). NNO will take
place August 1, and is a positive event intended to deter crime while having fun. It will
take place in Penn Park and the Villager Shopping Center. There will be live music, kids
events, ethnic food, and drug awareness. There will be a march to Penn Park. Bay Creek
residents will march up Park Street at 6:30. Contact Candace to march.
- Meeting place. Leftover from when we were looking for another meeting space, Bob
reported briefly about the option of using Space Place for a meeting place (so brief, I
missed what he said about it while I was distracted).
- Rummage Sale. Amy said the neighborhood-wide yard sales will happen September 9
from 8am - 4pm. There will be banners attached to the Lakeside Street and
Park/Fish Hatchery neighborhood signs, we'll have lists of participants and items
for sale to pass out, ballons and signs for participants, and we'll advertise the sale.
- Brainstorming. Theresa brought up the topic of taking pride in the neighborhood by
taking care of our property. There was talk of perhaps a regular Bulletin article about this
topic, with helpful hints (like gardening tips). Another tip: if seniors need help with lawn
care they can call the South Madison Coalition of the elderly. Perhaps the first article in
this series could simply be a re-statement of City ordinances. Duane suggested talking to
neighbors before resorting to calling the City. Nobody volunteered to write this.
Next meeting facilitator: Jim
Meeting adjourned: about 7:30 PM
